Extended Hours Available
24/7 Access to Care With Evening Hours and Weekend Sick Call for Your Convenience
At Children’s Health Care in Newburyport and Haverhill, we are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Staff is available from 8am to 7pm on weekdays to book appointments, answer questions regarding most minor illnesses, and provide guidance on when a child should be seen in the office.
Our triage nurses are very adept at answering most questions that parents have. For more complex problems, or when one wishes to speak directly to a doctor or nurse practitioner, a message will be left for them to return your call in a timely manner.
Please consult our medical library as well as articles we have written on common childhood illnesses and fever. We also provide dosing information for common medications.
Walk-In Sick Call Hours
All three locations, including our Haverhill office and both upper and lower levels in Newburyport, offer sick call from 8am-9am Monday through Friday. We ask that you please attend sick call in the office where you see your primary care provider. This helps us provide continuity of care.
Our location on the Lower Level of our Newburyport office offers sick visit appointments on weekends and holidays from 8am-9am.
No appointment is necessary during the morning sick call hour. This time, however, is reserved for your child’s new or sudden illness and is not intended for visits that would otherwise benefit from a longer scheduled appointment.
For chronic issues or issues needing a longer appointment, we encourage patients to make an appointment during regular office hours so your child can see their regular provider whenever possible. This will also reduce your wait time and help reserve sick call for urgent visits only.
After-Hours & Urgent Care
Outside of our normal office hours, a CHC provider is always on call to respond to emergencies and answer urgent questions. In the event of a perceived life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or take your child directly to the nearest hospital emergency room.
If you need to speak to the on-call provider, please call (978) 465-7121. Please check “Is My Child Sick”, our medical library, as well as our dosage charts before calling the on call provider as these resources can answer many common questions.
As the provider you speak with may not have access to your child’s medical file, please be prepared with pertinent health history information including all medications your child is taking. Thank you for not using this service for routine questions and non-emergencies. The on-call provider cannot provide refills or book appointments. Please call during normal business hours to request a refill or book an appointment.
