High Risk Groups for Influenza
This
year the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics have
expanded their recommendations for flu shots to include all children 6 months
and older. Given the new recommendations, he
following groups are considered at HIGH
RISK for influenza and should receive a flu shot each fall:

All children
(age 6
months to 18 years old
·
People with chronic medical problems including:
o
Asthma
o
Diabetes
o
Cystic fibrosis
o
Heart or lung disease
o
Sickle cell anemia
o
Kidney disease
o
Conditions or medicines that weaken the immune system
·
Pregnant women
· Anyone who lives with a baby who is under 6 months of age
Please
Note: Children under 9 years old need two shots
(spaced at least one month apart) if it is their first season receiving the flu
vaccine, or if it is their second season and they only received one shot last
year.
